# 11 pond conversion project

The conversion of # 11 pond to a bio-filter wetland is now rough shaped, meaning the heavy work is completed. The area will be finish graded when conditions allow. Rock walls will be constructed at the inlet and outlet of the pond and plants will be added in the spring.

The course is being fertilized with lime today. Hi-cal lime adds calcium to the soil.

# 13 green drainage is completed

The drains are installed on the 13th green. The greens has been topdressed. We plan to open the regular green for the weekend. The temporary green will be in play until then.

Work on the fifth tee

Work has begun on the sodding of the fifth tee. The old sod has been removed from the back three tees and we are now using the new sand pro to level and grade the tees.

Dryject aeration

The sand penetrats about 4-5" and breaks through the different layers in the rootzone.

Dryject aeration on greens scheduled for Tuesday 11/8

We plan to inject sand into the greens this Tuesday 11/8. Nine holes will be closed and some additional greens may be on temporary while maintenance is performed.

Deep tine aeration on fairways

We are starting to deep aeration of fairways today. We start with the aer-way and follow behind with the soil reliever and roll after that. Fairways 9,10,14 & 15 should be completed by the end of the week.

Aeration holes must be filled to be effective. We will continue periodic topdressing to ensure holes stay filled.

The course is closed at this time.

Over 4.5" of rain fell, most of it in the last 12 hours. We will continue to check conditions to see if the greens will be playable for walkers today.

The plant material (riparian buffer) slows the flood water and protects the stream banks from erosion.

Goose control

3 lighted beacons were recently installed in the ponds on the course. The flashing light disturbs the sleep patterns of the geese and causes them to overnight elsewhere.

A Monarch butterfly feeding on Coreopsis in the new meadow to the right of 13.
A juvenile red tail hawk keeps watch near the halfway house. He was recently weaned from his mother.
The hard fescue grass is establishing well behind 14 green. This is the same grass we have to the right of # 2 tee.

Topdressing greens resumes as the weather improves.

PA. Dept. of Agriculture is grinding used pesticide containers. We recycle these plastic containers as part of our environmental program. We were able to keep 250 pounds of plastic out of the land fill so far this year.
Juan is hand watering dry spots on tees. It will take several weeks to bring this turf back.
The meadow to the right of hole #13 is showing some color. Here the Lanceleaf coreopsis  is in bloom. We expect many more flowers next year. The perimeter has been seeded with hard fescue to frame the flowers.
