Rain continues!

Although the golf course is saturated the greens remain playable due to our aggressive aerification and topdressing program over the past 12 years.

Our poa annua (a grassy weed) control strategy  continues to provide outstanding results in the rough. The area next to the fairway is treated. The area to the right is not treated.

Bernardo is teaching Francisco how to mow collars. We have several new people joining the staff this season.

Red Clay Valley clean up

Jesus, Bernardo, Oscar and Scott worked this past Sunday helping clean up the watershed. Carmen and Paul were also there.

The course is just beginning to wake up.

Greens are always the last part of the course to get growing. They will still need a few weeks.

The crew is taking advantage of the cool weather and slow growth to get some additional aeration completed on tees.

We will need some warm weather to get the grass growing but the initial mow looks good.

First mowing of the season

We were able to mow tees today for the first time this season. We plan to continue mowing throughout the week, weather permitting.

 

The steps on 9 are OK to use.

Dry-ject aeration is completed

The dry-ject aeration on greens is complete. That concludes our greens aeration for the spring. 

New lights at the 19th hole

Jesus and the crew added some additional lights along the steps leading to the proshop from the 19th hole.

New fencing

New fencing was added to holes 14 & 15 to help control cart traffic and improve the playing areas near the greens.

Fairway aeration begins

While the weather is not great for a quick aeration season we are getting started on fairways and should have them completed before the end of the month.

Mulching the clubhouse

The crew uses more than 70 cubic yards of mulch each spring. Before mulching the beds are cleaned and plants are cut back.

Scott, Gilberto and PJ continue working on the wall at #9 forward tee in spite of the snow.

Jesus and Arnulfo replace the light fixtures leading to the Proshop from the 19th hole patio.

Insect scouting and monitoring

We use these traps to monitor the movement of the Annual Bluegrass weevil. This is a major pest for us and knowing their movements are key to timing control measures.

Core aeration coming to an end!

The final greens will be completed today bring this round of core aeration to a close.

The greens are brushed, rolled and ready for play. The coming rain should help to settle the sand.

Winter work

The crew has been busy re modeling the office and setting up the new irrigation computer system.

Temporary greens

Snow cover has us back on temporary greens. Warm weather this weekend will cause greens to start thawing out, leaving them unplayble for the weekend. We expect to be on temporary greens throughout the weekend.
